Email Marketing for your Dental Practice

Email marketing is still very much alive and well, and can be extremely effective. However, email marketing needs to be used the right way or you will be having patients, “Unsubscribe,” from your email list on daily basis.

Purpose

It is vital that your email has a message and a purpose. Make sure that you know what you want to say before you write it or have it commissioned. Are you reminding patients about maintenance or checkups, or do you have a special that you want to advertise. Make sure what you have to say is worth your patients while.

Personalize it

Sending out mass emails to all of your patients without including a personalized greeting is a waste of time, as most will not read it. Personalize your emails to each patient. Include a message so that your patients know that you are addressing each one. Make segment contact lists in different groups, such as extensive restorations, or pediatric patients so that you can add a personal note about the patient’s treatment.

Subject Lines

Choose your subject lines carefully. Patients will scan your subject line. Make it obvious; keep it short and to the point. Invite and entice so that your patients will want to continue reading. Your subject line is the first thing your readers will see and you want to make it stand out from the thousands of other emails in their inbox.

Visuals

Videos and pictures will draw your patients in. According to research, more than two-thirds of people will learn visually. Graphs and charts are a win win as well. If you add appealing visuals, such as pictures and videos, under your greeting the rest of your message will have more flow.

Social Media Links

Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram all have icons that you include in your email marketing messages. You will build stronger relationships with your patients when you add links to your social media pages at the bottom of your email messages. Interacting on social media may make patients more inclined to schedule an appointment.

Regular Contact

Send on a regular basis, but try not to overwhelm your patients with too much email marketing. The number one reason people unsubscribe from email lists is that they are overwhelmed with messages from the same business or organization.

Don’ts

Never email patients who have requested to be removed. There really is no point if a patient no longer wants to be contacted. Unfortunately, you may end up making the person angry, and in the worst-case scenario, lose their business.
